Toys for Tots Announce
DR. Phil McGraw & Robin McGraw to Chair 2006 Toys for Tots Campaign
Los Angeles, October 19, 2006 Dr. Phil McGraw, noted psychologist and host of the syndicated daytime talk show Dr. Phil, and Robin McGraw, his wife and best-selling author of Inside My Heart, have been announced as national spokespersons for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves 59th annual Toys For Tots holiday campaign.
"We are excited to welcome Dr. Phil and Robin to the Toys for Tots family," said Marine Toys for Tots Foundation President and CEO Matthew T. Cooper, retired Lt. Gen. U.S.M.C. "For almost 60 years, Toys for Tots has collected and distributed toys to needy children. But along with the toys, the campaign strives to bring a message of hope, meant to restore and build their self-esteem, as well as to inspire youngsters to grow into more responsible, productive and patriotic citizens and community leaders."
Beginning with the November 1 broadcast, Dr. Phil will highlight the 2006 Toys for Tots campaign in various shows heading into the holiday season. "Robin and I are happy to be part of this ongoing, extraordinary effort to bring a little joy into the life of children of all ages during the holiday season," said Dr. Phil. Added Robin McGraw: "We are especially proud to be working with the Marine Corps Reserves in their 59th year of continuing volunteer efforts to help these kids. Last year, 7.5 million children received toys thanks to Toys for Tots because of the generosity of people across the country who donated a toy or made a contribution. This year we are proud to meet the challenge of bringing as many toys as possible to kids who are in need, and we are happy to use the resources of the Dr. Phil show to do it."
Several Dr. Phil shows will highlight the 2006 Toys for Tots Campaign. Audience members will be invited to bring toys and viewers wishing to join the efforts will be directed to go online to www.drphil.com to sponsor a toy. Money raised on www.drphil.com will be used by the Toys for Tots Foundation to purchase age appropriate toys for children that otherwise would be forgotten.
