Toys for Tots Literacy Program Wins Platinum PR Award
Gainesville, VA , November 11, 2009
First Degree is very proud to announce that the Toys for Tots Literacy Program won the Platinum PR Award for the Best Community Relations Campaign. The award was handed out at PR News' annual Platinum PR Awards luncheon last week in New York City.
The Toys for Tots Literacy Program, a year-round initiative for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, offers our nation's most economically disadvantaged children the ability to compete academically and to succeed in life by providing them direct access to resources that will enhance their ability to read and to communicate effectively. Exclusively sponsored by The UPS Store franchise network, every dollar donated to the Toys for Tots Literacy Program puts a book in the hands of a child in need or places books in libraries, schools, and existing programs that serve economically disadvantaged children.
"We are honored to share this award with our client Toys for Tots and their partner The UPS Store franchise network," said Laura Hunt, President of First Degree. "This program delivers year-round benefits to both organizations around their common mission of supporting less fortunate children in local communities in which they live and work."
The campaign was recognized for its commitment to social responsibility and helping to raise awareness of children's illiteracy in the communities in which The UPS Store franchisees do business. Since 2008, the program has delivered nearly 900,000 books to hundreds of thousands of less fortunate children in over 650 communities nationwide. Through an integrated strategy that included local book reading events, a satellite media tour, and national and regional media outreach, the campaign delivered more than 150 million media impressions and has been featured in more than 1000 media outlets nationwide.
