Dale Jarrett and the UPS Store give Toys for Tots the Pole Position
Jarrett will race #88 The UPS Store/Toys for Tots car to jump-start $1 million campaign
ATLANTA, Aug. 18, 2005 - When Dale Jarrett climbs into the #88 UPS Ford on
Sunday, November 6, at Texas Motor Speedway, both he and the car will have a
decidedly different look. Bright lime green and tomato red will replace the UPS
signature brown as part of a special paint scheme promoting a campaign to raise more
than $1 million for Toys for Tots.
For Jarrett, the project was a family affair, with his three youngest children,
Natalee (17), Karsyn (15) and Zachary (10), creating the car's unique motif, which looks
as if children hand-painted the design. Jarrett unveiled the car today at a convention of
The UPS Store franchisees.
The campaign includes sales of a 1:43-scale limited-edition, die-cast replica of
the Toys for Tots car, which will be available exclusively at participating The UPS Store
locations for the retail price of $9.95. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Toys
for Tots compliments of The UPS Store franchisees, UPS, Dale Jarrett, Robert Yates
Racing and Action Performance.
"There's nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on a child's face," Jarrett
said. "It's particularly meaningful when you can do that for a child whose holidays might
not be very bright. I am pleased to have this opportunity to support the Toys for Tots
program through The UPS Store."
Participating The UPS Store locations also will offer customers the opportunity to
purchase a Toys for Tots pledge card for only $1, with all proceeds going to support
local Toys for Tots activities. Sales of the die-cast cars and pledge cards are expected
to generate more than $1 million for Toys for Tots.
"A dollar doesn't seem like much these days," D.J. said. "But when you think of
all the love and joy it could help deliver, it suddenly feels like a million."
In addition to participating The UPS Store locations, several racing-related
organizations will also serve as toy-collection sites for Toys for Tots this holiday season.
Robert Yates Racing in Mooresville, NC and Dale Jarrett, Inc. in Hickory, NC will both
be collecting toys. Toys will also be accepted at Action Performance's offices in both
Concord, NC and Phoenix, AZ. In addition, The UPS Store representatives will collect
toys at a special display at the season-ending Ford Championship weekend at
Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Jarrett will appear in a special public service announcement encouraging support
for the Toys for Tots program. The spot, which is expected to begin airing in November,
can be viewed at www.racing.ups.com.
