Summary
STORYTELLER. STRATEGIST. HUNTER. With our Media Relations Strategist position we are looking for a powerhouse storyteller with the confidence in their skills and an established rapport with the media to design and execute complex PR strategies that leverage high-profile earned media opportunities to educate and engage new audiences for our nonprofit clients.
This key person in our company will have a dogged determination to get a client’s story told in the right way, with the right messages and through the desired channels, as well as amazing client interface abilities.
This is a full-time position at 1st Degree and an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to take their career to the next level working in an agency environment. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Media Relations.
The workplace for this position will be mutually agreed upon with options including full-time space at any of our 40 Moore offices throughout the country, hybrid office/remote or full-time remote with collaboration travel for client and team meetings.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop and implement strategic and public relations plans that reflect a full understanding the client’s mission and strategy.

Design and manage complex issue campaigns that meet public relations KPI deliverables.

Identify, interview, research and evaluate potential media stories.

Pitch news stories to various media outlets including TV, print, radio, podcasts and other media outlets.

Establish and develop relationships with members of the press.

Draft written message materials including press releases, talking points, pitches and media alerts.

Manage and administer the activities of multiple accounts or industry segments in accordance with client objectives.

Work well under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills and Abilities

A deep understanding of the inner workings of the news industry, news production cycle, and current trends and needs of reporters and media outlets.

Great interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of communication styles.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, friendly, dependable, and proactive.

High level of professionalism with established strong relationships with key stakeholders

Ability to coach, train and prepare client spokespersons so they can effectively and succinctly deliver key messages with ease

Ability to prepare and present complex materials or issues before a wide variety of audiences.

Must be able to multitask, have strong attention to detail, be highly organized and able to consistently manage multiple projects and multiple clients at a time.

Must have excellent communication and presentation skills with comfort presenting to C-Suite clients and company leadership.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

Ability to travel when required.
Education and Experience
-
5+ years of experience working directly with the media in an agency, news, entertainment, corporate, nonprofit or political position.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field required.

Proven background in placement in national television and print.

Have and maintain existing producer and reporter relationships.
